Financial assistance to councils
Since 2004, special funds have been provided from the AP Vojvodina Budget for financial support to the work of national councils of minority national communities, as a form of exercising the minority self-government in the field of culture, education, information and official use of languages of national minority communities.
The funds have been provided to finance the fixed costs of national councils and their regular activities, which involves the financing or co-financing of programmes and projects in the field of education, culture, information and official use of the national minority language and script, as well as the financing of the work of institutions, foundations and companies, which are founded or co-founded by a national council or whose founding rights have been partially or wholly transferred to a national council.
The manner of allocation of the funds is regulated by the Provincial Assembly Decision on the Manner and Criteria for Allocation of Budgetary Resources for National Councils of National Minorities (Official Journal of APV, No. 8/2019). The right to allocation of funds is granted to registered national councils based in the territory of the AP Vojvodina, provided that the number of persons belonging to the national community they represent in the territory of the AP of Vojvodina, is more than a half of the total number of persons belonging to that national community in the Republic of Serbia, or that their number is greater than 10,000, according to official data of the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia, from the last population census.
