Preschool institutions in AP Vojvodina
The Law on the Fundamentals of the Education System ("Official Gazette of the RS", no. 88/2017, 27/2018 – as amended, 10/2019, 27/2018 - as amended, 6/2020, 129/2021 and 92/2023), regulates the fundamentals of the system of preschool, primary and secondary education and adult education, while the Law on Preschool Education ("Official Gazette of the RS", no. 18/2010, 101/2017, 113/2017 - as amended, 95/2019 - as amended, 10/2019, 86/2019- as amended, 157/2020 - as amended, 123/2021 - as amended and 129/2021) regulates preschool education as part of a single system of education.
The Rulebook on Fundamentals of the Preschool Education Programme was published in the “Official Gazette of the RS - Educational Gazette” number 16/2018 and entered into force on 25 September 2018. The Rulebook determines the fundamentals of the preschool education programme and they are basis for: the preparation of preschool education programme, development of different programmes and forms in preschool education, preparation of criteria for monitoring and assessment of the quality of preschool education and improvement of preschool institution as a whole.
As part of compulsory nine-year education, since the school year 2006/2007, parents have been obliged to enroll their children to a preschool institution, for the purpose of attending a compulsory preparatory preschool programme, taking four hours a day, for a minimum of nine months.
Education activities in preschool institutions are conducted in the Serbian, Hungarian, Slovak, Romanian, Rusyn and Croatian language, as well as bilingually, in ethnically mixed environments and in foreign languages in AP Vovodina, in a total of eight foreign languages.
The activity of preschool education is carried out in a preschool institution, and exceptionally in a school, in accordance with law.
